In 2014, I made a significant career shift from academia to scientific communication. I became a scientific publicist with a mission to make microbiology accessible and engaging for people from all walks of life. This led to the creation of "Microbe Matters," a popular science magazine that I founded in 2016. Since its inception, the magazine has grown into a leading publication in the field, providing valuable information for both professionals and laypersons alike.
As a publicist, I have been fortunate to share my passion for microbiology through various channels, including public speaking engagements, television appearances, and radio programs. I am well-known for my ability to translate complex microbiological concepts into captivating stories that inspire curiosity and fascination with the microbial world.
In addition to my work as a publicist, I am an active member of several professional organizations, such as the American Society for Microbiology and the European Society for Microbiology. My contributions to both research and science communication have been recognized through numerous awards, including the prestigious Royal Society Winton Prize for Science Books in 2021.
I am committed to bridging the gap between the scientific community and the public, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for the essential role that microbes play in our lives and on our planet. I look forward to continuing my mission and inspiring the next generation of scientists and microbiology enthusiasts.
